Poverty Poems

Their smiles: sincere like angles
Their hearts: scarred forever more

Was this their fate, or our greed?
A question asked, but we ignore

Born into tragedy, they can't escape
No opportunities for them to try

Suffering, hurting more everyday
But we sit back and let it go by

Shattered homes; desperate for shelter
Poor conditions, its help they need
The poor had nothing and hardly anything to eat
While the rich enjoyed tea and honey and sherbet lemon sweets

In Victorian London the poor just lived and died
The rich never really noticed the rich never really cried

A period of extreme poverty of the lower working classes
As they worked to the death the rich sat politely on their asses
Though of happiness money not a guarantee
You will not find many who embrace poverty

Not many happy faces on Poverty Street
Where most have to struggle just to make ends meet

The praises of the wealthy you hear many sing
And those with heaps of money have almost everything.
O how gloriously sweet to sleep on Motherland's chest
While the lively flag waves for love and unity at high

Where peace and hope are rising like sun in far East
And citizens, for the nation, they would gladly die,

Yet the countrymen still at confuse and ask: Why?
Why there live such persons who greed for power?

Then why there exist public servants who abuse?
Why there reigns corruption and great poverty?
Satiated, desiring but not having enough food to offer some, is also poverty,
Sheltered, wishing, but failing to accommodate a guest, is also poverty,

Treated, prescribed, but unable to effort better treatment is also poverty,
Clothed, requiring but can't afford sufficient to meet the need is also poverty,

Educating, meritorious, but failing to provide better education is also poverty,
Social, invited but avoiding a ceremony to avoid buying a gift is also poverty,
Pedlar's coming down the street
Housewives beat a swift retreat
Don't you answer to the bell
Heedless what she has to sell.
Just discreetly go inside.
We must hang a board, I fear
PEDLARS NOT PERMITTED HERE.
Poverty is without a dime
It's robbery without being a crime
Poverty cannot heal through a lottery
It cannot feed by self on bread and butter
What an utter disgrace
It can be dealt with God's grace
Poverty is a people's problem
No! It's all's problem, Help poverty
Change a life
Give to the needy, Show kind deeds
Show some love, To all the people.
Give us your deprived, your malleable muddled masses
hoping for a gentler taskmaster
Welcome to the multi-trillion dollar industry, Poverty
A.K.A, cheapest labor force Give us your deprived, your malleable muddled masses
hoping for a gentler taskmaster
Welcome to the multi-trillion dollar industry, Poverty
A.K.A., cheapest labor force
Poverty creates jobs for those financing the societal
Institution of ya godda pay more taxes
Blaming Poverty on the poor
Look! what Enron did to those less fortunate
Blaming Poverty on the poor
Some are not really causes
But just symptoms
And we misdiagnose
A sickness
For a symptom
Of the real sickness

The cause
And the effect
Are often interchanged

For instance
Is poverty the cause
Of crime
Or is poverty
Only the symptom
Of it?
In the sizzling heat of the afternoon
Clothes drenched and shoes filled with sweat
Last nights long shift makes the body ache
In growing age when the muscle is the only strength
The will like faith growing stronger with each passing day
A disease knocking at the visceral parts of the body
Joints now like the hinges in the machine need oil
Moved in hundreds and like all others
Away from the family and the little ones memory
A letter from the home in need of money
For the doctor’s fee as education is forlorn desire
Minimum wage half robbed by the supervisor
And like a true competition in economics
Out on the metal gates a replacement is waiting
Alienated from the production of the product
Creating surplus for the consumption of the rich
Some are not really causes
But just symptoms
And we misdiagnose
A sickness
For a symptom
Of the real sickness

The cause
And the effect
Are often interchanged

For instance
Is poverty the cause
Of crime
Or is poverty
Only the symptom
Of it?

For instance
Is ignorance
The cause of poverty
Or is it simply
An effect of poverty?
